Wedding Worries

Dear Short Answers:
If you are holding your wedding in a resort town (where no one from the families live), what is the bride and groom’s obligation for providing housing and meals? Do they pay for hotel expenses for ALL the guests? Just the wedding party? And is it important to make this clear on the invitation so that no one is surprised with a big hotel bill at the end of the event?

Dear HELP:
In our opinion,  the bride and groom are not obligated to pay for housing or meals beyond the wedding celebration.  It would however,  be considerate (and customary) to include a list of possible accommodations and the contact information. Another alternative is for the hosts to secure a block of rooms at a place of their choosing  but let the guests know they must confirm their own reservation and the hotel can take it from there.
